Working–and Still Falling Short:1 in 3 Workers in Pickens County’s Most Common Jobs Struggle to Get By
New research zeroes in on households living paycheck to paycheck, yet often with income that’s too high for assistance
Easley, SC – In 2023, 36% of workers in Pickens County’s 20 most common jobs lived in households that couldn’t afford basics, according to new data from United Way of Pickens County and its research partner United For ALICE. These workers – the backbone of every community – include food services, retail, manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and educational services.
Now Accepting Letters of Inquiry for Education Grants
United Way of Pickens County is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry for Education grants to support programs designed to improve 3rd grade reading in Pickens County.
LOI's should address how proposed programs will positively impact 3rd grade reading in Pickens County, should demonstrate measurable results, and should specify the population served. Programs that involve parental engagement and make efforts to reach out to underrepresented and/or marginalized populations are encouraged.

Community members are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about tax season volunteer opportunities through Free File.
Free File is an IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program which serves individuals and families in Pickens County with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. This program relies on community volunteers who receive IRS training and certification to serve as tax preparers, intake coordinators, interpreters and more.
Give to the Pickens County Hurricane Relief Fund

In response to Hurricane Helene's devastation to our community, United Way of Pickens County has opened a Hurricane Relief Fund to help our neighbors in need.
United Way is coordinating services with local nonprofits and community leaders to provide support for Pickens County's most vulnerable neighbors during this critical time, such as food, shelter and access to basic healthcare.

Annual Meeting 2024
United Way of Pickens County will host the 2024 Annual Meeting on Thursday, September 26 at Tri-County Technical College. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the lunch event begins at 11:30 a.m.
