Three-year-old Lily stood frozen in the doorway. The room was loud. The other children were strangers. Lily buried her face in her mother's sleeve.
By the fourth Preschool Pages session, she was the first one through the door.
That transformation happened because a group of women in Pickens County decided it should.
Women United is the force behind Preschool Pages and the Luncheon for Literacy, working to make sure every child in our community walks through the kindergarten door ready. Led by an Executive Committee of local women, Women United turns community support into moments that shape young lives, one book, one song, one small hand learning to grip a crayon at a time.
Luncheon for Literacy
Each spring, women from across Pickens County come together for an afternoon that's part celebration, part call to action, and entirely focused on the children whose stories are still being written.
The Luncheon for Literacy brings friends together around good food, an inspiring keynote, and a shared belief that every child deserves to walk through the kindergarten door ready. Every seat at the table supports Preschool Pages.
Preschool Pages
Preschool Pages is Women United's signature program, and the reason Lily found her favorite seat at the reading circle. At 14 sites across Pickens County, preschoolers and their caregivers gather for story time, songs, and crafts that build early literacy skills while introducing children to school as a safe, happy place.
Every child takes home a book. For some, it's the first book they've ever owned.
You can help more children like Lily by donating books or funds for books, so every little reader starts building a library of their own..
