Preschool Pages children holding their book tote bags

It was the first Preschool Pages session, and three-year-old Lily stood frozen in the doorway, burying her face in her mother's sleeve. By the fourth session, she was the first one through the door. Preschool Pages is Pickens County's early literacy program giving toddlers and their caregivers the tools to walk into kindergarten confident, curious, and ready to learn.

Lily had a favorite seat at the reading circle. She knew the hand motions to the welcome song. She'd learned to write the first letter of her name with a fat green crayon, and she made sure everyone saw it.

That transformation happened because of you.

At 14 sites across Pickens County, parents, grandparents, and caregivers sit beside their children during story time, crafts, and hands-on activities that build the early literacy skills children need before they ever set foot in a kindergarten classroom. Every child leaves each session with a book to take home — for many of them, the first book they have ever owned.

Last year, Preschool Pages served 355 children across 102 sessions and distributed 1,063 books throughout Pickens County.

The most recent Kindergarten Readiness data shows that nearly 60% of Pickens County kindergartners arrive at school "not ready" to learn. Research tells us that 80% of brain development happens in the first three years of life, and that early experiences with books, stories, and words make a measurable difference in a child's future success.

A Pickens County Early Literacy Program Powered by Women United

Preschool Pages is the signature program of Women United, an unstoppable network of women who are passionate about children and education. Women United members are educators, mothers, grandmothers, and community leaders who share one unshakeable belief: children who are prepared for school have the greatest chance to succeed.

When you give to Preschool Pages, you put books into the hands of toddlers, model early literacy for caregivers, and help children discover that school is a safe and joyful place. You become part of Women United, and part of something much bigger than a single gift.

There are more children like Lily waiting to find their seat at the reading circle. Give today and help a child walk through that door with confidence.
