On a quiet road in Pickens County, a family is still living under a tarp-covered roof, waiting for the repairs that will let them sleep through the night without worry. The news trucks left long ago. The headlines moved on. The damage did not.
Recovery does not end when a disaster passes. For many of our neighbors, it is still happening.
The Pickens County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) is a cooperative network of local nonprofits, faith communities, government partners, and volunteers working together to help individuals and families recover after disaster. The LTRG helps close the gaps that remain after insurance, personal resources, and available assistance have been exhausted, so no neighbor is left behind as attention shifts elsewhere.

Who We Are
The Pickens County Long-Term Recovery Group is a collaborative network of organizations and community partners committed to helping Pickens County recover stronger after disaster. By bringing together trusted partners, shared resources, and coordinated processes, the LTRG supports long-term recovery in a way that is thoughtful, fair, and community-centered.
Mission
To coordinate long-term disaster recovery efforts for individuals and families impacted by disaster, address unmet needs through collaboration and shared resources, and strengthen Pickens County's resilience for the future.
Vision
A Pickens County where disaster survivors are supported through a compassionate and coordinated recovery process, and where our community is stronger, more connected, and better prepared for whatever comes next.
What We Do
The Pickens County Long-Term Recovery Group focuses on coordinated long-term recovery support by:
- Connecting survivors to appropriate resources, including local services, partner programs, and recovery pathways
- Addressing unmet needs through a coordinated review process with trusted partners
- Supporting recovery projects that help families regain safe, stable housing and basic living conditions over time
- Building stronger community preparedness and resilience through planning, education, workshops, relationship-building, and improved coordination before future disasters
Why This Matters
Disaster recovery often continues long after the initial emergency response ends. Families face ongoing challenges in the weeks, months, and even years that follow, long after the headlines have moved on.
You may know a family like this. You may be one.
The Pickens County LTRG exists so support is delivered fairly, consistently, and with dignity, and so Pickens County has a recovery structure ready for whatever comes next.
Stand With Your Neighbors
Recovery takes all of us. Whether you lead a nonprofit, serve a faith community, work in local government, run a business, volunteer your time, or simply want to show up for the people around you, there is a place for you in this work.
You are not an observer of this recovery. You are part of it.
