Don't miss this sell-out event to support Preschool Pages! Tables of 8 are on sale now, and individual tickets will go on sale February 26.
The United Way of Pickens County's Women United will host its annual Luncheon for Literacy on Thursday, March 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tri-County Technical College's Easley Campus. The event raises funds for Preschool Pages, Women United's signature early literacy program serving toddlers and their caregivers across Pickens County.
This year's luncheon will be hosted by WYFF News 4's Jane Robelot and will feature a keynote address from Dr. C.C. Bates, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor of Literacy Education at Clemson University. Dr. Bates, who began her career as a kindergarten teacher, will speak about the value of early literacy and the importance of community support for programs like Preschool Pages.
Guests will also hear from a local Preschool Pages family and celebrate the 2026 Literacy Champion award recipient.
Preschool Pages provides story time, crafts, and take-home books for young children and their caregivers at elementary schools in Pickens County, building foundational literacy skills and helping children start kindergarten ready to learn. This year's fundraising goal is $20,000.
"When our community comes together around this event, the real impact is felt by the children and families we serve," said Julie Capaldi, President of United Way of Pickens County. "Every person in that room is helping put books into the hands of young learners who need them most."
Tables of eight ($300) go on sale February 19 and individual tickets ($40) go on sale February 26. Ticket purchases cover the cost of the luncheon. Additional donations go directly toward books and literacy materials for children in Pickens County. This event traditionally sells out and early registration is encouraged.
