Theresa Singletary joins United Way of Pickens County as VOAD Coordinator
EASLEY, SC-United Way of Pickens County is pleased to announce that Theresa Singletary has joined its team as the new VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) Coordinator.
As the VOAD Coordinator, Singletary will facilitate communication, collaboration, and coordination among nonprofit organizations involved in disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. This role involves outreach, relationship-building, meeting facilitation, administrative management, and active participation in emergency preparedness efforts.
When disasters strike our rural community, United Way of Pickens County has consistently been a trusted partner, relied upon to coordinate with the County, municipalities, nonprofit agencies, and other stakeholders to address immediate needs. United Way has a proven track record of mobilizing resources quickly and effectively, ensuring critical support reaches those most impacted.
Despite past successes, much of this work has been carried out without a formalized process or plan. The new VOAD Coordinator position enables these efforts to be strengthened and formalized, leveraging United Way’s experience to create a more strategic, sustainable approach to disaster response and resiliency.
Singletary brings decades of experience in public safety, organizational development, and coaching to this vital role, and has served in leadership positions across law enforcement, higher education and the nonprofit sector.
Having weathered multiple disasters herself - including two total-loss house fires - Singletary knows firsthand the importance of preparedness, coordinated response, and compassionate recovery. In this new role, Singletary will lead efforts to strengthen disaster response and long-term recovery across Pickens County by connecting local nonprofits, faith-based groups, and volunteers through the VOAD network.
“We are thrilled to have such a talented and knowledgeable individual join the United Way team to coordinate our disaster work and strengthen Pickens County as a whole,” said Julie Capaldi, United Way of Pickens County’s president and CEO. “We are delighted with the expertise and compassion that she brings to this role, and are excited to have the opportunity to formalize our disaster response work.”
