AmeriCorps Members are a crucial part of United Way of Pickens County's Financial Stability work. A program of the the Corporation for National Community Service, our AmeriCorps program’s goals are to give low-wealth individuals the ability to access benefits, save money toward building assets, learn money management skills, create resumes, search for employment, and receive the necessary tax credits to help them achieve financial independence. AmeriCorps members serve at United Way and at sites throughout the county and are an vital part of our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program.

Each year, we look for committed individuals who are interested in making a difference in the community through a year of service. AmeriCorps members serve 1700 hours focusing on financial stability at a partner site. Members coach clients in ways to increase their personal income, build savings, and gain and sustain assets. There are a variety of positions available at different partner agencies in Pickens County. Members will serve mid-August through July 31 each year. This includes a mandatory two-week orientation.


Full-time members who complete 1700 hours of service are eligible for a $13,992 living stipend (annual), health coverage benefits, childcare benefits, and federal student loan forbearance during their term. Upon successful completion of a service term, members are eligible for payment of accrued interest on eligible federal loans, and a $6,050 education award toward continued education or student loan repayment. All members are provided with mileage reimbursement, skill building opportunities, and robust monthly professional development trainings.

During the spring and early summer, you can apply online for an AmeriCorps position by completing the following steps:

  2. Complete and save a general team member application.
  3. Submit your completed application to our specific AmeriCorps Upstate listing.
