United Way of Pickens County furthers our Financial Stability work through the Corporation for National Community Service AmeriCorps program. Our AmeriCorps program’s goals are to give low-wealth individuals the ability to access benefits, save money toward building assets, learn money management skills, create resumes, search for employment, and receive the necessary tax credits to help them achieve financial independence. AmeriCorps members serve at United Way and at sites throughout the county and are an integral part of our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program.
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,600 unique sites inlcuding nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program's founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve.
